So, for the next two months most everything that I'll be putting up here will be relating to that. Hopefully, I'll still have time to play around every once and a while but my focus is definitely going to be on this year's Dominance War.
With that said....

Feb Thumbnails
In preparation for the Dominance War I wanted to try to get my concepting skills up. So I figured I'd bang out a bunch of thumbnails before the contests starts to try to get all the lame and stereotypical ideas out of my brain before i start. These are all about an inch high done with sharpie in my sketchbook. Each of these took between 10 and 30 seconds. I did a page straight for three days then a half page the next day. Then it took me till tonight to finish that last page. I had a lot of fun with this and its something I'm going to try and continue doing.

Life Drawing 2-21-2009
Group of us from work went to a life drawing session today. It's something I've been wanting to get back into for a long time. It's been about 6 years since I've done serious life drawing and it felt good to be at an easel again. Rusty as hell, I'm glad to see the results weren't quite as bad as previous returns to drawing.

First Speedpainting - not so much
I've been wanting to get back into traditional painting for a while. One of the ways I'm going to try to push myself with my art is to record the processes of what I do. That way I can track my progress and see repeated mistakes.
My first attempt at this was a huge failure for me. I tried to get too fancy, these are supposed to be a learning process. And yet I arrogantly thought I could bang out a painting after not touching a real brush in years. This was supposed to be a limited pallete but I was trying for color too much and not focusing on value.
I realized from the very first brushstroke that this wasn't going well. It was redeemable for a while and then i worked it to death.
The good news is that before the paint was dry on this mess I had redrawn it and was ready to start again. I hope to finish that one next week. I'm putting this one up there both in the hopes that someone may see this and learn from my mistakes, and recording this so I can look back on it later.
It was so hard not to just delete this movie off the camera.

Zombie Vampire

Well my new beginning at this has faltered a bit. But, time to start up again.
Been kinda obsessed about vampires recently. I'm working on a model of one and I really liked the first sketch i did. The model doesn't look anything like the sketch, think i will make one like this at some point. Anyway, I liked the sketch enough to want to try painting it. Didn't have a scanner so just redrew it digitally. I did the coloring over the course of a day and a half at work during little couple minute breaks while the game was building.
